Hew Wagner is an Honours Graduate of the Elder Conservatorium of Music and was a member of the James and Diana Ramsey Foundation Young Artist Program at the State Opera of South Australia. He has performed with the State Opera of South Australia, the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera of Melbourne, Australian International Opera Company, Gertrude Opera, CitiOpera, Emotionworks Cut Opera, and Co-Opera, including tours of regional Australia, China, and Malaysia.

Stage roles include Don Ramiro in La Cenerentola, Ernesto in Don Pasquale, Ted Pickles in Cloudstreet, Balthasar Zorn in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Hoffman in Tales of Hoffman, Kornelis in La Princess Jeune, Virtue, Nutrice, and Liberto in L’incoronazione di Poppea, Silvio in Le Docteur Miracle, Luke in The Handmaid’s Tale, Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte, Basilio in Le Nozze di Figaro, Friquet in La Chanson de Fortunio, Ruiz in Il Trovatore, Goro in Madama Butterfly, Marco in The Gondoliers, Molina in Kiss of the Spider Woman, and Count Ludovic in Passion.

Roles covered include Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Ernesto in Don Pasquale, Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore, Eisenstein and Alfred in Die Fledermaus, Kashchey in Kashchey the Immortal, and most recently Camille de Rosillon in The Merry Widow for the State Opera of South Australia. Hew has performed as the Evangelist and tenor soloist in Bach’s St Matthew Passion, and as the tenor soloist in Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s The Creation, Mozart’s Requiem, and Orff’s Carmina Burana.

Hew was nominated for a South Australian Screen Award for Best Performance for the short film Captivated: The Musical, has performed in the Adelaide Cabaret and Cabaret Fringe Festivals, and has participated in masterclasses taken by Nicholas Braithwaite, Adam Guettel, and Jason Robert Brown.
